Smodè Editorial Policy

This statement is an updated statement for the financial year ending on 31st December 2020. 

Smodè Publications LTD is a leading media, design and information organisation.

Smodè Publications believes in the highest standards regarding journalistic integrity.

Set out below is the Editorial Policy. If you have any questions in regards to any aspect of this policy, or if you feel that something is not covered below, please contact the Editorial Office for further information or clarification.

Content
Smodè Publications will not tolerate plagiarism in content submitted to its editorial board. Any quoted or closely paraphrased information from other Authors, journalists or contributors must be identified as quotations or paraphrases and the sources of the quoted or paraphrased material must be given full copyright credits and acknowledged. Use of unauthorized or unacknowledged sources will be marked as plagiarism, therefore, If any content is found to contain plagiarized material, will be immediately terminated and a further, full investigation will be carried out.

Images
Any images submitted to the Smodè Publications editorial board must be reviewed prior to acceptance, images that are submitted will be checked for manipulation. The Editorial Board may request that Authors, Journalists, or Contributors, to supply the original content for comparison against the submitted work. If Authors, Journalists, or contributors are unable to comply with such requests, submissions may be withdrawn from the review process, or the acceptance of the content may be fully withdrawn.

The views expressed in this publication are not necessarily those of the publisher.

Publishing
Smodè Publications do not publish any materials which can cause discrimination against sex, race, religious beliefs, disability or sexuality. All information and details are checked by a qualified sub-editor for corrections, and editorial updates before going to print and press.

Complaints
Smodè Publications take all complaints regarding editorial content seriously. Its board of directors and editors are committed to abiding by the (“IPSO”) - Independent Press Standards Organisation rules and regulations and the ("IPSO") Editors Code of Practice.

This Policy Covers:
This policy only applies to complaints regarding editorial content in the Smodè Publications digital and print services that it controls in the UK, and internationally.


This Policy Does Not Cover:
Complaints about advertising (This is regulated by ("ASA") the Advertising Standards Authority
Complaints about TV and radio services (This is regulated by Ofcom, and/or the BBC Trust)
Complaints about books;
Complaints about partner content (For example; material on other websites or apps that was not posted by
Smodè Publications or on its behalf) this includes materials that Smodè Publications have not reviewed or edited.

You must include:
An official copy of the article or publication you want to make a complaint about, this will ONLY be accepted by sending a link to the relevant web address of the publication in question, (For example, the title of the article in question and www.smodemagazine.com/testarticle)*
If the publication in question is unavailable to send via a link then, you MUST send a clear photograph of the publication in question ONLY If the complaint is regarding print published material such as; a publication page, title, issue date, or article title.
An official written explanation of your concerns attached with a reference to the Editors Code of practice, alongside (any other documents that will help your complaint). Any complaints that are received without this essential information cannot be considered. We may request further details and if you cannot provide the requested information we may not be able to consider your complaint.

Who Can Complain
Any person who has been directly affected by the matter in question, or from a representative group that has been affected by an alleged breach of the Editor’s Code of practice which is significant and substantial to the public interest, or from a third party seeking correction of significant inaccuracy for any published information or publications.

Rights Reserved
Smodè Publications reserve the right to reject complaints that do not show any breach of the Editors' Code of practice, without further investigation. Smodè Publications also reserve the rights to reject any complaints that are insignificant, theoretical, abusive, offensive, or unpleasant in any way.

Smodè Publications treats everyone with respect and expects the same conduct from you.

What Happens After You Make A Complaint
Smodè Publications aim to acknowledge your complaint within 3-5 working days of receipt. 
You do not have to pay any monies to make a complaint, this process is free of charge regardless of the outcome. If you wish to submit multiple complaints regarding the same issue, please only make one submission as multiple submissions will be handle in the same respect.
Smodè Publications aims to resolve your complaint within 28 days of receiving all the required information needed in order to fully investigate and assess the issue. If you are unsatisfied with the timescale or you wish to escalate your complaint, please take your complaint to IPSO.

To make a complaint, this should be formally made in writing, either by post to Smodè Publications LTD at Kemp House, 160 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX or send an email.
